Level 8: Diploma for Teaching the IDEA

All 13 units at SCQF Level 8, 17 credit points. This is the course for instructors who go on to train other people. You get two years to finish it.

Learn with a partner
Level 5: Introduction to Driving Education Award
Through partner driving schools
All 13 units at SCQF Level 5, 25 credit points. This is the course you take to become an instructor. Your local approved partner signs you up and arranges the in-car training. They will tell you the price.

Prices are final: Innovative Driving Education Academy Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added at checkout. Instalment plans divide the price evenly (rounded in your favour) with no interest or fees. In-car training fees are agreed directly with your approved partner.
What’s included in your course
Both awards follow the same structure, whichever way you enrol.
13 units
Work through 13 units, with learning and assignments in each one.
Online and in-car
Study online at your own pace. In-car training runs with approved partners.
Marked and verified
A qualified trainer marks your assignments, and an independent verifier checks the marking.
A certificate you can prove
Your certificate carries a serial number that anyone can check online.
Six months per unit
Each unit gives you six months to complete its assignments.
Two years to finish
Take up to two years to complete all 13 units of the award.

Common questions
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. The Level 8 diploma can be paid in full or in 3, 6 or 12 monthly payments. The price divides evenly, rounded in your favour, with no interest and no fees.
How long do I get to finish?
Six months for each unit's assignments, and two years to complete the full award.
Is VAT added at checkout?
No. Innovative Driving Education Academy Ltd is not VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay.

How do I enrol on the Level 5 award?
Through an approved partner driving school. Your partner enrols you, arranges the in-car training, and confirms pricing with you directly.

Course dates
The Level 8 diploma runs in intakes. Each one covers all 13 units, studied in order. Online sessions have set dates, and we arrange in-car training with you directly.
Who can enrol
There are two things you need before you join an intake.
You are already an ADI
You must be a qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) before you start the Level 8 diploma.
You can train in a car, in your own area
Some units are taught in the car. You must be able to fit these sessions in flexibly, near where you live. We arrange each one with you directly.

Theory portal questions
A few things to know before you start practising.
Who is the theory portal for?
It is for people getting ready for the ADI Part 1 theory test. There are also questions to build your knowledge for Parts 2 and 3.
Is it a one-off payment?
Yes. You pay £24.99 once. Your access has no end date, and there is no renewal charge.
Can I take the quizzes and mock tests again?
Yes. You can practise as often as you like. Choose a theory band, try a mix of questions, or take a timed Part 1 mock test.
Will I be able to see how I am doing?
Yes. Your account keeps your results. You can see your scores, review answers and find the topics you need to work on.
Do I need to join a Level 5 or Level 8 course?
No. You can buy the theory portal on its own. It is a separate purchase from our Level 5 and Level 8 courses.
Does it include hazard perception videos?
No. It includes practice questions and Part 1 multiple-choice mock tests. Hazard perception videos and practical mock tests are not included.

Use Ask IDEA without taking a course
Ask IDEA answers questions about learning to teach driving, and works through problems with you rather than just handing over an answer. Everyone gets some use of it for free. A plan gives you more of it each day.
A plan renews until you stop it, and you can stop it yourself at any time from the Ask IDEA plan panel on the assistant page. You keep it until the end of the period you have paid for. Ask IDEA does not teach the paid Level 5 and Level 8 course material, and it is not a substitute for your trainer.

What can I ask Ask IDEA?
Ask about learning to teach driving, planning lessons or explaining driving skills. You can ask follow-up questions if you need more help.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. Create a free account and verify your email to get some use each day. Course students already have an allowance too, so check your current allowance before buying a plan.
How many questions can I ask?
There is no fixed number of questions. Each plan has a daily use limit. Longer questions and answers use more of it, while short follow-up questions use less.
How often will I pay?
Each plan shows its price and how often you pay. It renews for each billing period until you stop it.
How do I stop my plan?
Sign in, open Ask IDEA and choose Your plan. You can stop your plan there. You keep your paid access until the end of the period you have paid for.
Does a plan include the courses or theory portal?
No. It gives you more use of Ask IDEA. Courses and the theory portal are separate. Ask IDEA does not teach the paid course material or replace your trainer.
